Never assume

Een zwangere vrouw komt op het spreekuur met een plastic flesje met water. Tenminste, dat dacht ik. ‘Ik kan alleen maar dat drinken’, zegt ze. ‘Al het andere komt er zo weer uit. Dat had ik tijdens de vorige zwangerschap ook’. Ik vraag vervolgens: wat kun je nog drinken? Blijkt er alcohol in het flesje te zitten....

A pregnant woman explaines to me that she has trouble eating and drinking. She carries a plastic bottle with what I presume is water. ‘Only this’, she says. ‘All other food and drinks I throw up’. The bottle contains alcohol.....
